SS Dubey Takes Charge as New Controller General of Accounts 

S S Dubey, a 1989-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, is appointed by the Government of India as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) with effect from 6th March, 2023. He is the 28th Controller General of Accounts. Prior to taking charge as the CGA, Dubey was Additional Controller of Accounts, Public Financial Management System (PFMS). Dubey has also served as Chief Controller of Accounts in Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

  • Controller General of Accounts (CGA) is ‘The Principal Advisor’ on accounting matters to the Union Government 

  • Responsible for establishing and managing a technically sound Management Accounting System and preparation & submission of the accounts of the Union Government 

  • Responsible for exchequer control and conduct of internal audits for the Central Government 

Georgina Beyer - World's First Transgender Parliamentarian Passed Away
 

New Zealand's Georgina Beyer, who was the world's first openly transgender Member of Parliament (MP), passed away in hospice care at 65. Beyer was LGBTQ rights advocate and a former sex worker, actor and drag queen. She was elected to New Zealand's national Parliament in 1999 and had also served as the Mayor of the town of Carterton. As an MP, Beyer supported progressive policies such as LGBT rights and M?ori rights 

In 2020, Beyer was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the rainbow community. 

Deakin University – The First Foreign University to Set Up Campus in India 

The Deakin University, which is a premier University in Australia, has become the first foreign university to receive approval of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to set up an International Branch Campus (IBC) in GIFT-IFSC, GIFT City, Gujarat. 

The IFSCA has granted in- principle approval to Deakin University based on the recommendation of the Committee of Experts set up by the GIFT City Company Limited. 

By virtue of this approval, Deakin University will be able to offer the same degree courses it offers in Australia in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Financial Management in GIFT IFSC to both Indian and foreign students. 

The degree offered shall be identical or similar to that offered in the home jurisdiction.

Odisha CM Unveils Biju Patnaik's Iconic Dakota Aircraft for Public Display 

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has unveiled former CM Biju Patnaik's iconic "Dakota" DC3 (AT-AUI) aircraft for public display at Biju Patnaik International Airport Bhubaneswar. On January 18, 2023, the ace pilot Biju Patnaik's Dakota DC-3 aircraft was transported from Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to the capital of Odisha, where it was rebuilt before being shown to the general public at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. A 10-member team of Aerospace Research Development required 12 days to dismantle the aircraft and pack it in proper shape for public viewing. This is perhaps the first airport in the world where an aircraft is being displayed at the entrance for public viewing.
