World’s Longest Railway Platform – Hubballi 

Indian Railways' South Western Railway (SWR) zone's Hubballi got its name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest railway platform in the World. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the platform in Hubballi, Karnataka. 

Gorakhpur platform in Uttar Pradesh is the second longest at 1,366.33 meters  

Kollam Junction in Kerala has the third longest platform at 1,180.5 meters 

Features: 

  • Hubli Junction, also known as SSS Hubballi Junction, is a significant railway junction station located in Hubli, Karnataka, India, falling under the Hubli railway division of the South Western Railway zone of Indian Railways.  

  • The platform at Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji station in Karnataka has been constructed with an investment of Rs 20.1 crore. 

  • It is as part of the railways' initiative of remodeling stations. 

  • The construction work for the 1.5 km long railway platform at the Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station was commissioned in February 2021.

India's Trap Shooter Prithviraj Tondaiman Wins Bronze Medal 

Trap shooter Prithviraj Tondaiman won a bronze medal at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup 2023 in Doha, Qatar. It was India's first medal at the ongoing ISSF World Cup being held at the Lusail Shooting Complex in the Qatari capital. 

Prithviraj and Shreyasi shot a combined score of 142 out of 150 in the qualification, which was a point less than the bronze medal match qualifying score of 143, attained by Turkey and Poland. 

India finished ninth overall in the medals table, which the USA team topped with six medals - three gold, two silver and one bronze.

Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag, Tehri Top Landslide Index: ISRO Report 

With a steady rise in the number of extreme weather events, especially heavy rainfall capable of triggering landslides and floods, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently released the Landslide Atlas of India, a detailed guide identifying landslide hotspots in the country. According to the report the two hilly districts of Uttarakhand, Rudraprayag and Tehri, are most prone to landslides. 

  • The National Remote Sensing Center has released a list of 147 districts prone to landslides across the country 

  • Kerala's Thrissur and Palakkad districts are at 3rd and 5th spots respectively 

  • Rudraprayag, which tops the list, is also home to the famous Kedarnath shrine, which witnessed a devastating disaster in 2013 that killed thousands 

  • Sirobgarh and Narkota areas of Rudraprayag are most affected by landslides 

  • Over 11,000 landslides were recorded in Uttarakhand in the last two decades 

Atal Innovation Mission launches ATL Sarthi

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog is Government of India’s flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country and was setup in 2016. Atal Innovation Mission - NITI Aayog has launched “ATL Sarthi”, a comprehensive self-monitoring framework to strengthen the ecosystem of Atal Tinkering Labs.

Atal Innovation Mission is establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories in schools across the country to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds.  

Atal Tinkering Labs Sarthi is a charioteer and it will enable the Atal Tinkering Labs to be efficient and effective. This is an important initiative taken by the Government of India to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
