India will host the Quad Summit in 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at the Quad Summit 2023 taking place on the margins of the G7 summit at Hiroshima in Japan.

Quad is a multilateral grouping of four countries- India, Australia, the United States, and Japan with an aim to ensure and support a “free, open, and prosperous" Indo-Pacific region. The group was formed in 2017 and presents a strong challenge to the expansionist policies of China.

Japan is hosting the G7 summit and all the leaders of the group are currently visiting the country. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was the first to pitch the idea for the formation of Quad in 2007.

Saudi Arabia's First Astronaut Leaves for Space Station.

A private mission to the International Space Station (ISS) hosted by Axiom Space began from Florida on May 21, taking two Saudi astronauts to an orbital laboratory for the first time.

Breast cancer researcher Raynah Barnawi is the first Saudi woman to travel in space and her partner on the mission, Saudi Ali al-Karni, is a fighter pilot.

The crew of Axiom Mission 2 (AX-2) took off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, the southern state of Florida.

This mission is not Saudi Arabia's first attempt at space. In 1985, an Air Force pilot, Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, participated in a space flight hosted by the US. Saudi Arabia established the Saudi Space Commission in 2018 and launched a program last year to send astronauts to space.

India's First Semi High-Speed Regional Rail Services Named 'RAPIDX'.

India's first semi-high-speed regional rail services have been named 'RAPIDX' by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The trains will run on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors, being implemented to connect key urban nodes across the National Capital Region (NCR).

A joint venture company of the Union government and states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the NCRTC is tapping green energy by the installation of solar panels on stations and depots as well as the use of blended power in traction which is planned to be increased progressively.

The RAPIDX services on the first RRTS corridor, Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, will serve this 82-km long corridor and will bring down the travel time between Delhi to Meerut significantly.

The priority corridor between Sahibabad and Duhai, a 17 km stretch is expected to start from this month.

NCRTC is targeting to commission the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor for the public by 2025.
