What is KAS?

Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) is the administrative service of Kerala state, similar to Indian Administrative service (IAS) of the Central Government. The first posting of the KAS is equivalent to the rank of the Under Secretary in the State Secretariat. KAS also serves as a feeder channel for IAS, and KAS officers are expected to be promoted to IAS cadre in around 10 years. The basic salary of KAS was fixed at 81,800 rupees by the state cabinet.
