World Radio Day 2024 

World Radio Day is a UNESCO International Day celebrated on 13 February every year since it was adopted in 2011.  

World Radio Day is an opportunity to celebrate radio as a medium. It is a chance to promote international cooperation between radio broadcasters, to encourage major networks and local radio stations to foster access to information and freedom of expression. 

The objectives of World Radio Day include raising awareness among the general public and the media about the value of public service audio, encouraging decision makers to promote free, independent, pluralistic radio and to strengthen networking and international cooperation between broadcasters etc. 

The theme of World Radio Day 2024 is - Radio: A century informing, entertaining and educating.

World Marathon Record Holder Kelvin Kiptum Passed Away 

World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana died in a traffic accident. 

Kelvin Kiptum was a Kenyan long-distance runner and the current marathon world record holder. He is the only person in history to run the marathon in less than two hours and one minute in a record-eligible race. He ran three of the seven fastest marathons in history and was ranked first in the world in the men's marathon rankings. 

Kiptum ran the fastest-ever marathon debut at the 2022 Valencia Marathon, becoming only the third man in history to break two hours and two minutes and setting the then fourth-quickest time ever. He followed it up four months later with the second-fastest marathon in history at 2:01:25, 16 seconds outside the world record, at the 2023 London Marathon (WMM). In his next race, the 2023 Chicago Marathon (WMM) six months later in October 2023, he broke the world record by 34 seconds with a time of 2:00:35, a mark ratified on 6 February by the international track federation World Athletics. 

India Won the 9th GovTech Prize by UAE Government 

The “M-Gov Award” and the “GovTech Prize” are annual awards managed by the Emirates Government Service Excellence Program (EGSEP) at the UAE Prime Minister’s Office. These awards are designed to encourage pioneering students, researchers, government agencies & institutions, private sector companies and startups to develop innovative solutions and explore new opportunities for a better future for humanity. 

India was honoured with the 9th GovTech Prize under the category of 'AI-Powered Government Services'. at the World Government Summit 2024, held in the United Arab Emirates. The accolade recognizes the remarkable efforts of the Ministry for Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, for its transformative project known as iRASTE. iRASTE, a collaborative initiative involving the government, industry, and academia, is revolutionizing road safety through the integration of AI technology.
